Prompt: Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a particular food was based on a stereotype. Explain what the food was, what you originally believed about it, and where that belief came from. Then describe how your perspective changed after experiencing or learning more about the food. Be sure to include specific details about the moment your thinking shifted and what you learned from that experience.

Prompt Response: A time where I realized that my perception of a particular food was based on a stereotype was when I young I thought that sushi that you can only eat sushi raw. That belief came from the influence of media online. My perspective changed after learning more about the food when I started watching people cook and eat different things. It made me become curious about sushi and other ethnic foods. Turns out, you can eat cooked sushi, like California rolls and shrimp tempura rolls. It made me realize to take insight on my own, rather than be influenced by the popular belief.

Summary: In class, we finished the assignment about the cultural food documentary.

Reflection: It made me realize the impact of cultural food towards the youth. As Ms. Linda said that because her mother passed down her recipe of yakamein, she was able to sell it and cater to the young generations. As the youth said that the recipe was like eating from home, exactly made as their own mother.
