Prompt: Today, we started our discussion about culture and food. What is one dish from your culture that is a must-have as a representation of your culture? Identify the dish and explain what it is and why it is significant.
Prompt Response: One dish from my culture that is a must have is sopes. They are made out of dough, and have to be manually pressed to have pinched edges. The first layer is typically beans, with any flavorful toppings. Like lettuce or cut up onions, even salsa. It is significant for me because it’s a great comfort food for me. I usually eat a plain sope with mushed beans and grated cheese on top. It can be friendly meal to a new face, as you adjust the toppings as you prefer, for a calm flavor.
Summary: In class, we watched the backgrounds of cultural dishes.
Reflection: It made me realize to not only appreciate the taste of cultural food but to also look beyond. As the background of cultural food is impactful, as the creation could’ve been born to help people from starving, or to share the love. We should know the history of the dish in respect of people’s cultures.
