Prompt: After watching your classmates' cultural food presentations, reflect on what you learned about the relationship between food and culture. Which cultural food presentation taught you something new or surprised you the most? Explain what you learned about that culture and its food traditions. How did the presentations help you better understand the importance of food in shaping cultural identity, preserving traditions, and bringing people together?

Prompt Response: The cultural food in someone’s presentation that surprised me the most was that collard greens could have meat inside. As she said that she loved collard greens with bacon. I did not know that there was an addition to the food. But I’m glad to have been educated about it. For its food tradition, I did not know collard greens was usually eaten with corn bread. These presentations helped me understand the importance of food in shaping cultural identity, preserving traditions, and bringing people together because food is the most generous to the soul, bringing relief to your stomachs and happiness to families, and has comforted generations by keeping tradition safe and alive. Food is reliable to the people which is why it is important.

Summary: In class, we presented our cultural food projects.

Reflection: By seeing the extensive knowledge put into each cultural dish, it made me realize that I should be more curious about the recipes of different foods. As I had gotten accustomed to just eating Mexican dishes, so I think I should broad out when I have a chance.
